*tap tap* This thing on?
Hi y’all, I’m Jess (41/female) from Southern California. I run a small business consulting firm and an independent record label. I’m a designer, front end web developer, and UX specialist. My college education focused on microbiology, horticulture, and botany.
I’m an experienced camper, but I’ve only really seriously roughed it when I was a kid on my yearly pack-out trips to the CO mountains with my parents. I’ve never been in any true wilderness survival situation. My primary interest is in homesteading, but obviously a lot of this knowledge overlaps.
I’ve overwhelmingly lived in very urban environments around the world, and my outdoor and day-to-day lives have always felt very separate. My immediate goal is to merge the two. My husband and I are saving for land, where we want to build off grid. We’re downsizing dramatically at the moment, and I’m looking to build a more formidable skill set until we get to our forever home.
I have extensive plant knowledge, from identification, foraging, gardening, cooking, to preservation. I’m pretty good at building, and a have a lot of little skills that aren’t well developed - sewing, archery, carving, etc. My husband is a carpenter and artist. I value handmade, self-sufficient, old-ways, new tech, creative, elegance-in-simplicity, and high efficiency.
Welp, I feel like I just barfed my whole life out here in this intro. I think I covered all the pertinent points! I look forward to learning from y’all and hope I have something to offer, as well. Happy new year!
