    Default First Kydex Sheath

Well while my hands are healing from the hand drill I needed to make a sheath for a few knives. I used Kydex as I dont like building leather sheaths that much. I like the looks of leather just not the building. The kydex was very easy and form and went well I think.

Looks good EA. I agree with you on working with leather. I can whip up a concealex or kydex sheath pretty quick and less blood spilled as well. hehehe...

    Looks good EA.

I've yet to try out kydex.

There's a maker in finland that makes leather sheaths with a kydex insert. Best of both worlds.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

A testament to how easy it is.

I made a mistake on the number of sheaths I could make, 1 sheet will make 4 sheaths for this style knife. I do need to get a sharper bit as the one I used slipped on the mark twice.

Ty everyone. Its ppl like yall that encourages another to try and present their work and I ty for that.

Looks great. Where do you purchase the sheets of kydex and the rivets?

That looks fantastic. I have an old knife from my dad, one of the old navy Ka-bars. The knife is in good condition but the sheath is messed up. I definitely need to make something like that.

Eric - You can buy replacement sheaths for the Ka-Bar in leather if you want it more original.

Doug I bought it at http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php

If you do not have a press already you can make one using 2 pieces of plywood(3/4) and closed cell foam sandwiched between them. I purchased their foam and cut it in half. Glued it to the ply wood with contact cement. I also purchased the hand setter to set the eyelets with. You will need those 2 basic tools. After that you just need to buy a bag of eyelets and your kydex.

I found it to be much more cost efficient to buy the Kydex as I can make 4 sheaths from one sheet of 12 by 12" kydex- 6 bucks a sheet WOW!

I only make two knives currently, both bushcraft knives, so it works well for me.

    ty for the interest.
