Default A Revolution in Fire Power!!

What if you could own a weapon that acted as if it had a 60 foot barrel? What if your bullets could continue to gain momentum AFTER they left the barrel? What if you owned a weapon made entirely of plastic?

    Don't answer. There's more....

What if your weapon had zero recoil every time you fired it? What if it could be made of any material you wanted?

    Enter the Gyrojet.....

What if you had a weapon that was wildly inaccurate and cost 100.00 per round?

If I could buy one that fired rounds with high-explosive tips, and then mount it on my car, I'd probably abandon my quest to obtain phasers and photon torpedos to combat "road rage" and for "traffic control" purposes.

    Cool find, been awile.
I can actualy remember reading about the Gyrojet, a long time ago.
Most firarm mags were writing about them, (I suspect just to get one to play with).
    Didn't seem to catch on.

Another cool idea was the round that was molded propellent.
After it was fired, there was supposed to be nothing left.
Will have to look that one up.

The H&K G-11 rifle fired a 4.7mm caseless round. And I heard about an Italian company made a 9mm SMG that used caseless rounds.

What if you had a weapon that the projectiles could be stopped by simply holding your hand up to block them? Then you would have a gyrojet. The troud (ammo) for the gyro jet took some time to get up to speed. So if you were within 10 or 20 feet of the muzzle the ammo didn't have enough velocity to do much of anything.

Yeah, well, you know. There's a couple of little gliches that need to be worked out. But, hey, you gotta start somewhere.

I was reading an article this morning that mentioned the Gyrojet and, like Hunter, hadn't thought about them in a while. The original ammo, in the '60s, was something like $1.60 or so. A lot of money back then. A pretty good chunk per round now.

I figured some on here had probably never heard of it. Of course, if you HAD bought one back then it would be worth some change today.

Rick, that was a nice find, and I'm guessing that there are a lot of people that never heard of some of this stuff.

I wish I would have had the bucks back then.
My whole hunting collection consisted of my first .22 SS. (paper route money, still have it)
A Crescent Arms 12 ga SS, (loose action, shoot with leather gloves to keep from getting pinched, still have it , retired).
And a $30 buck 8mm Mauser, w/sorta weird trigger pull, (sometimes you would have to pull it all the way and would fire on release, don't have it, but wish I did)

Lots of "Flash Gorden" stuff thought of, but never came to fruition. (Hows that for historical reference).

What if your weapon only had enough velocity to penetrate plywood AFTER 25 meters?

What if your weapon left a smoke trail all the way back to your position?

What if the Glock 17 had never been invented?

What if you moved to a country where you could only own a .38 special?

Suddenly that Gyrojet is looking pretty good.

OK now to blow your minds. I shot one of those when I was 8 years old. At our local sportsman's club a rep for the company came to show them off and asked if any of the boys there had experience shooting guns. I raised my hand along with 5 or six others but something about me caught the guys attention. He asked my father if it was alright, my dad said yes and I proceeded to shoot a whole magazine. So without knowing it I spent 600 dollars in a little over 2 minutes. 1967 dollars were worth a lot more than they are now. My Dad was REALLY grateful it didn't come out of his wallet. Two guys at the club put in orders. Both were millwrights and figured they could "cook up" there own ammo. The gyrojet rifle wasn't as accurate as my Daisy BB Gun.

I don't really have anything against the .38 special and often in the US I carry one by choice. It really rubs me the wrong way that here in Brazil the only two calibers "liberated" for civilian use are the .38 special and the .380 ACP, and then only in approved models of handgun. They do allow us to buy up to 50 rounds of ammo for each registered gun per year so I don't know why I get so bent out of shape. They also allow us to buy a total of two handguns but we have to get a special note from the government to take them of our own property, even to a range, but that only costs about $25.

This is a decades old "failed concept" in a miserably underpowered, unreliable package. What more can be said. I'll stick with my 40 S&W, thanks. Yall take care.
