Since you're a master of the obvious, I'll agree that millions CAN live without my checklist.

Will YOU agree that a large percentage of those will have house fires, and that thousands will die in those fires? I know that you don't like to be confused by facts, but how about these?

And will you also agree that:

Most slip and fall accidents around the home can be avoided by proper maintenance?

A well maintained heating system can save hundreds of dollars per year in heating costs?

Uncorrected simple ("simple" - like you, Stony) home maintenance problems can lead to major expenses?

Routine computer maintenance can prevent a myriad of problems?

Basic car maintenance can prevent the necessity for major and expensive repairs as well as untimely breakdowns?

Well maintained appliances reduce electric costs?

Firearms should be inspected, cleaned, and cared for regardless of use?

Should I keep going, Stony?

Ken has a good thing going with the list. Mine is more of a fixed routine I have down mainly because I mostly finished my house, garage, workshop and I have the exterior almost maintenance free. I did or supervised everything and prepared for just about anything. I walked around Lowe's today and didn't see anything I need or might need. I have been on this kick about 40yrs so I guess I have backups for the backups. After well over 30yrs in this spot my routine and being retired gives me time to keep the ole homestead up to par. I DO need to keep a written maintenance schedule on vehicles and I keep the computer humming along. A detailed list is a good idea and it would have to be a very long one to cover what needs to be checked daily.

Thanks for posting the list Ken.I didn't see any copy rights,or trade marks so I am going to print it out and tell the wife I came up with it all on my own.

$300.00/hr. plus expenses.

Billing begins the second I leave my office and continues until the second I return there. Billing will also include the time I spend thinking about the inspection before I leave.

There's nothing wrong with preventative maintenance.
I know I know Ken that preventative maintenance does not prevent brake downs or wear or tear on equipment. So whatever you wont to call it, it will help reduce costly repairs.

1. Pull alongside curb to park
2. Listen to shreiking noise under hood
3. Watch smoke rise over hood
4. Smell brand new serpentine belt burning away.
5. Get out of Explorer as anti-freeze runs down street
6. Open Hood and discover that water pump has crapped out.

Her response was less than pleasant and rather agressive to say the least.
After my butt chewing... It was just a blown fuse due to a power brown out. Thank you know who.

Preparing for a decent snow storm today only took less than an hour thanks to routine checks I do. Ken has a good plan for folks that don't really live in the boonies and are always checking on a routine basis. I only checked the generator, extra wood in the garage and put the Jeep in the garage and touched up the chain on the saw just in case.
