i am doing searches on this forum of course but im also wondering if anyone recommends any good reading material (online or otherwise) that details long term food storage. grain storage (main interest) , pickling, canning etc etc

You can start with this for canning. It's the basis for just about any publication on canning. They just completed the 2009 version of the Home Guide so if you look for one, look for the 2009 version.
