Great job. Do you ever use a soft contact wheel? (I'm making one tomorrow)
Great job. Do you ever use a soft contact wheel? (I'm making one tomorrow)
When I bought the Grizzly, I bought an extra 10" wheel (to get a little further out from the motor) so I have the 8" wheel that came with it. I'm going to glue 1/4" felt to the wheel (which will bring it to 8-1/2". Ideally I suppose it would be best to use a 10" wheel and mill 1/2" from it - but it's what I've got. I got a chance to try using one last week. After the initial hollow grind with 50 and then 120 grit - changed to the soft wheel and finished with 220 and 400 grit (I guess you can use finer). No hand sanding is required and the finish shows no scratches. I'll take some pictures of the project and post them.
Here's the soft wheel I put together today. The felt is 1/4". It was secured to the wheel with contact cement and then the edges were trimmed.

I Wonder Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink what ever comes out?"
