Default DNR shooting deer behind our school???

Today my health teacher told us that the DNR comes to the wetlands area right behind our school and gets all decked out in camouflage and sticks a big silencer on their rifle and shoots deer while we're in school. this seems kind of dangerous. It's only about a soccer fields distance away. what if they missed?

Crash is correct. They are NOT wearing camouflage.

Even if they are culling the herd, which might need to be done, I'm sure they aren't shooting in the direction of the school. I can't imagine why they would need a silencer. That part makes no sense. I'm with Crash, I suspect your teacher was just pulling your leg.

Could it be so the kids don't think it's Columbine all over again? The silencer I mean.
I doubt that is what's happening myself, but crazier things have been known to happen.

He sounded pretty serious. he said it like this, "Back there by the wetlands, see it, every morning I come to school and look out there and once in a while there's coyotes, foxes, geese, and a lot of the time there's deer, but they don't come out as much anymore. The DNR keeps on coming out and shooting them. Yeah, they put camo on then put a big silencer on their rifle and just shoot as much as they need to."

Chrs - IF there was any shooting going on right next to a school (by federal agents or anybody else) any responsible teacher or school official would notify the proper people and put a stop to it immediately. If a school official observes activity that is potentially harmful to the students in their charge, they have the responsibility IMO to act. I still think he's pulling your leg.

Yes I agree with Crash. They could be held liable in a court of Law if students were being endangered. By law they are Required to report any such endangerment.

There may be people hunting with farm permits that allow them to shoot a given number of deer. I've been given deer though these permits. I've been encouraged to shoot and even offered payment for shooting deer on farm land out of season. You may have people with permits and the DNR checking on them also. It's not that all departments of the DNR are always honest because I have seen when they have repeatedly not been and it causes animosity and suspicion. Most of the officers are pretty good people with the exception of a few jerks. I doubt that if they had found TB or wasting disease in the area, that they would handle in that way, but it's possible. If they are culling, they aren't doing it for the fun of it.
Around here we have the Cormorant; a protected bird. It kills vegetation and fish. It's defenders say there is no scientific basis for this claim, but I see the Cormorant numbers increase and the fish population decrease. I look at the trees where they roost and they are dead and dying. Nesting areas have been culled. The DNR will not be issuing tickets for the illegal shooting of these birds, in this area, and I think they are right.
