Tell him to take the turtle out to the woods and place it some place relatively protected place. If he leaves it there for several weeks I'm sure Mother Nature will clean the shell up for him.

Of course, depending on size and type there's always stew.

Just find a large ant bed and lay it on top.

I found a dead box turtle and just left him there until there was nothing left in the shell. So it works well.

profesional taxidermists steam off the unwanted things and they also use caustic soda< which is a product available at an autmotive paint supplier.

an easy way (already been mentioned) is to lay it on a fire ant pile for a week.

Gotta go with ants, although personal preference is toss it in the crab trap and let them do the work.

Sounds like "caustic soda" is lye, aka sodium hydroxide.

Ah yes, shrimp and crayfish to a great clean up job also. Get them at the pet store, they all love MEAT. Buy a 10g tank for $10, fill with dechlorinated water, add dead turtle, add 3 crayfish, or 10 1 inch shrimp. Wait about 7 days. Done.

Change 75% of the water if it looks or smells bad.

it is sodium hydroxide. that stuff eats meat like we do.

and the crayfish are little vultures, they eat anything that resembles meat.

Ever see what crabs, lobsters, and sand fleas do to a drowning victim?

I've never eaten a sand flee, and I try not to think about this whenever I eat anything that turns red after it's cooked.........
