    Default bivy sac reveiw

so i purchased a bivy sac last year for about 250 dollars, i honestly can't say i am to impressed with it, first off i noticed condensation build up in it even at -40 below, same as during summer does not allow any air movement lost about 5 lbs the other night when i climbed into it, and thats the other problem it is too tight to get into, now i am sure that helps kepp it water proof and i am a big fella at 6ft 4 and 230 lbs, i need to come up with a different system thought it would be great for just sleeping on the trail or during bug season.

Not sure what a bivy sack is.... Have you ever looked into a saddle roll?
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

WE - I think you'd be better off with a good mummy style bag. The bivy might be okay in the summer but I don't know how you'd ever get around the condensation problem once you close it up.

OK so it a fancy sleeping bag. Sorry, I am stuck in the past! lol

I would be very uncomfortable in the bivy sack, combine the attached with the proper weight sleeping bag and walla cowboy bivy!

the mummy bag slips inside the water proof wind proof goretex bivy sac, too much for the heat and humidity up here
cowboy when i lived in AZ i used a saddle roll, but with the skeeters up here ya need a break from them especially with all the nights spent outside, if you only are doing a couple of nights you can go with a bit of sleep deprivation but do 4 months and the toll would be horiffic
rick, the bivy is good in inclimate weather i have found but like i said even in -40 temps it still condensated inside

    Thermacell would eliminate the skeeters.

Try the Eureka Zeus 2. You can find them on e-bay cheap. I'm 6'3" 320 lbs and have taken this tent and stayed comfortable through all four seasons, in a 20 degree bag. I can sleep comfortably with my pack in the vestibule and everything in reach. The tub is tall enough to keep sideways rain and snow from entering. it does great in 50 mph wind an -6 degree temps. The key is to set it up correctly the first time. i have had to bury the stakes wrapped around rocks 1' deep in the sand to keep the tent from blowing away. I have never had a rain or snow or condensation problem and there is enough room for me a couple of scouts to play cards in a downpour.

    Have you considered the hammock.

No need to find a level tent pad.
