VThompson, what did you use to seal the spoons? They look like they have a coat of something on them.

Norse&Native, I have put several coats of olive oil on them. I figued that it would make a good sealant for them. I might be wrong, but it sounded good to me. What do you think?

Geromimo, It took me about 2 days each working on them off and on during the day. I never got in any hurry, I mainly piddled with them. I would finish them off by sanding them some to smooth them out a little. I am making one out of cedar right now, because my wife wanted one to hang in the kitchen so that she could smell it.

How is cedar for whittling. I know if I turn it on the lathe or cut it with a power tool it splints and splinters like the dickens.

Matthew, Cedar is great for whittling bcause it is so soft. So far I haven't had any problems with the one that I am making my wife.

I don't really know much about wood sealing, but if it works, it works. Right? Good on ya, partner.

Got me interested in making one.

I like the 'hawk very much. Can cedar be used for spoons to eat/cook with? (might be a stupid question)

i could help you complete your tomahawk set, I have a stone axe head that is a mirror image of yours. nice work. the funny thing is that the iron heads are often older than the stone ones go figure!
