Default Gold means nothing when you're hungry

Did ya'll see this story on the news Sunday 03-29?

Walmart workers turn away a customer after she tries to pay for groceries with old, $20 gold coins. The incident happened in Utah. The customer ended up going to a bank and cashing the 14 coins at $20 each. The woman told the teller she had groceries waiting at Walmart, but store workers wouldn't let her use the coins. Turns out...the gold coins date back to 1875 and are actually worth thousands! But there's more to this story...that bank teller took the coins home...paying face value to the bank. Managers recovered the coins and fired the teller. The bank is trying to contact the woman to let her know the true value of her coins.

I guess when you're hungry, only food will hit the spot. But I wonder if she actually couldn't have known that these were gold coins. I also wonder where she got them?

Some of the coins that were shown on TV, looked like they were in VG or better condition.

Not sure what the moral of this story is...
