Default How to Hang a Heavy Bear Bag

If you need to raise a heavy bear bag, a bear canister or even your back pack, here's a quick way to make a pulley system. I swiped the graphic off of Gossamergear.com. All you need are three small carabiners and a couple of sections of rope/paracord.

I read that title (mind must be wandering) and was thinking this thread was going to take a different direction. Nice idea. Thanks.

You like that tip....you should see what there is in the Introduction section. Hey, while you're there checking out the tips, you may as well start a thread and tell us a bit about yourself. Thanks.

Yea, but mine's got a pretty picture.

Ken, those are a bit sissyfied for me. Carabiners. Man pulley. Rope burn. That's what I'm talkin' about.

Oh, hell, yeah! I want one of those!

See, Ken? See? No sissyfied stuff around these parts. Man gun, rope blaster, recoil. That's what I'm talkin' about!

    Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Guess what? The first rescue class I ever attended was taught by an old Irish (and he damn sure let you KNOW he was Irish) Captain from the Boston Fire Department. We couldn't even think about Lesson 2 until everyone mastered the use of a single block, double block, and triple block and tackle. Oh yeah - we also had to master use of a snatch block as well. All with that old fashioned 3/4 inch manilla hemp rope (which I kept getting in trouble over because I kept calling it a "line" instead of a "rope").

Yep. I remember that guy quite well. Huge man, bright guy, he was. Nobody there was going to call one of those things sissyfied. Nope, not us.

Sorry for raising the dead on an older thread, but just a side note on something I do know something about. Not all carabiners are the same.
There are Carabiners and there are Carabiner Keychains - make sure you know which one you have.

A Life Saftey Carabiner will have a 3rd party inspection mark on it.

I have yet to find that perfect hanging branch though. None of those in the northern boreal forest.

That sure seems a lot easier than dragging a 50lb sack over a branch with rope gotta find my carabiners now.
