Default Black is "NOT" Black---OFF Grid is "NOT" OFF Grid....?????

It is not my intent to make anyone wrong. So please do not be defensive. I see a communications problem, and it is everywhere, not just on the forum, but everywhere. And surely Part of the problem is me. Two examples:

1.) I just had a thread about "TOTAL" darkness. And people are saying, "I love the "TOTAL" darkness, I enjoy doing things in total darkness, with no light".
So I explained my idea of total darkness and you can see nothing, not even 1" from you nose, Nothing. And people come back with how free they feel, at night in the total dark, and that is when they go jogging in the forest, with zero light, and can't see 1" in front of their eyes. I don't get it...What did not get communicated......?

2.) We had a thread where someone was wanting to live "Off Grid" (A very common thread subject). And they had all the good reasons why their life would be easier off grid. I kept questioning them, and probing them, and finally the truth comes out, The grid is a "symbol" of oppression and authority.
What they really wanted was to not be chained to a employment, just to pay $389.74 per month electric bill.

We do not even communicate on time periods, we make assumptions. Someone will ask, "what is the best firearm for survival if the SHTF"....? Well they are thinking SHTF as in they are lost in the woods for two nights. Others are thinking 20 years, others thinking for ever and ever.

IMHO WSY...ATOS (What say You....any thoughts on this subject)??

Welcome to the internet, the land of wild speculation and even wilder assumptions.
A land where people cloaked in anonymity can call out those who actually walk the talk.
A land where anyone can claim anything so long as there is a wiki about it. Or a blog.

And it all exists only in your browser.

So now, I will prepare myself to battle the hordes of sheeple with my katana because the gubment and black helicopters are about to take all the gas and guns, and I can go live in the woods with nothing but snare wire, a multitool and a this really great knife that I got off ebay.

    Hopeak, man, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin days were through,
Sunk-in eyes and full of sighs,
Tell no lies, you get wise,
I tell you now were gonna' pull you through,
There's only one thing left that we can do.

We gotta' get you a woman,
Its like nothin else to make you feel sure you're alive.
We gotta' get you a woman,
We better get walkin, were wastin time talkin now.

    Hopeak, man, youre my friend
You say how and I'll say when
Come and meet me down the street
Take a seat, its my treat
You may not ever get this chance again
That empty feelings just about to end.

Talkin 'bout life and what it means to you,
It don't mean nothin if it dont run through
I got one thing to say, you know its true
You got to find some time to get this thing together.

Talkin' bout things about that special one
They may be stupid but they sure are fun
I'll give it to you while were on the run
Because we aint got time to get this thing together, cause we
Got to get together with a woman who has been around,
One who knows better than to let you down,
Let's hope there's still one left in this whole town,
And that she'll take some time to get this thing together.

We gotta' get you a woman
And when were through with you,
This stuff won't matter to you.

Well, uh, no, er, maybe, I guess.

Would you repeat the question? I didn't understand anything that was said on this thread.

In fact I don't understand most of what anyone says on any thread.

Would you consider our trap line / hunting camp "off grid"?

    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

YES, But the break through in the thread was that "OFF GRID" was not really what he wanted.

My post in reply to your darkness thread was written after only skimming your original post. In fact, I only skimmed half of it. I just figured you were rambling on about being scared of the dark at night up there in Alaska all alone. So, i just wanted to sound tough and say I wasn't scared. In essence I was just calling you a wussy for being scared of the dark.

Now, after a thorough examination of your ramblings, I have decided your not a wussy....your much, much more than that.

Yea I don't get that total darkness stuff. Total darkness is the absence of light... meaning by "running through the forest" would mean playing a real-life game of Pinball with the trees and boulders.

Total Darkness = Absolute Darkness = 0% Light

SHTF for me would be economic collapse. Were societal rules break down and no longer function. A Great Depression is not SHTF until people start offing each other for resources. A global war is not SHTF until the fighting is everywhere. However there is the exception... If all is perfectly well, my job is stable and everyone is living the life of luxury, but then someone decides to toss **** into my ceiling fan, then yes, SHTF

Off the grid for me means self-sustaining. That doesn't mean living 500 miles north of nowhere. But it usually entails a decent sized property lot to affix a wind generator, some solar panels, etc. Probably not a NYC townhouse. And I'm fairly certain a developed suburban neighborhood association won't lightly take my decision to put an outhouse in the backyard. Therefor, logistics-wise, Off The Grid means a rural plot where I'd be self-sufficient in food, water, electricity, heat, sanitation, education, etc. EDIT: but can we really be off the grid with property taxes and all? Shenanigans!

We got one guy who is afraid of the dark, and some other dude quoting Todd Rundgren. A moderator named Gimpy or Guppie, and some other fella who cries when given a little constructive criticism....

Yes. Yes. I forgot about the sheep. Another fringe benefit. Quite a few around here. None of them can talk. I'm sending one to Hopeak, too.

Rick, too bad you're not quite up to knitting right now. There's an open spot for you in a few of the Indiana circles. I'm pleased to say that Jason just took the last one available in Montana.

Hey Jason. Do you know how Massachusetts lawyers find sheep in tall grass?

    Very satisfying.
