I do believe that when I'm out hunting or out in the bush for that matter is when I'm closest to the Creator and Creation, so I reckon you're close enough, LOL.

We had a driver that would put in for time off every time bow season came around. Under the heading "Reason For Time Off" he wrote "Religious Holiday!" BTW, I think blueberry pancakes are the bomb! Yummy!

I'am an army brat. Born in Germany, but moved to the states when I was 6 weeks old. I have 2 brothers, I'am the middle one. My older brother has cerebral palsey. We moved 11 times before I was 14 years old.I was pretty good at judo in my late teens. I have always made something for a living, carpenter, bakery, machine op., electronic assembly and dental tech. I was a drunk and pretty much a waste til my mid thirties. My two old drinking buddies both died in their late thirties. Johnny Cash is my favorite singer. I try to live a debt free lifestyle. I hate talking on the phone. I won't wait more than 10 mins. for table at a restaurant. I think I'am a very giving person but hate to buy Chirstmas and birthday presents. My favorite foods are my moms pot roast, waffle house hashbrowns scattered, smothered, covered, chopped and diced and Van Camps pork and beans cold out of the can. I've taken 2 deer in my hunting career one with a gun and one with a bow. I have no desire to take another. I love to fish. I consider myself a conservitive but not a republican. I voted for Ross Perot and Ron Paul. I have been on my knees asking God to hlep me and also cursed him. I don't let stuff get to me like I used to. I have only really been in love twice in my life. I was 19 years old before I weighted 100 pounds now I'am 5'5'' and weight 146.

Nice icebreaker and since Ya'll don't really know me, an easy one.

Spent 4 years freezing my nads off on places like Kozebue and Dutch Harbor

I saw the Pacific Gyre in 1988 and it took 3 days to steam through the garbage patch then...

3 kids, 2 are "legally" adults and no longer live with me. Still happly married to their Mom though.

Most people that I tell about my "preparedness" think I'm nuts(I live in southern California)

I aim to simplify my life some more and am working towards owning a large tract of land in the mountains of California, or maybe southwestern Oregon.

I believe that Organized fundamental or evangelical religion in this world is way off base and is actually detrimental to mental health (Please note, I'm not telling you what to believe though, your choice)

    I always carry a knife.

The only critters I ever fear are of the 2 legged kind, and it's not really fear, it's more a question of trust.

    1. I am a raving Scotsman (but you knew that!)
    2. I have always been a loner. Even now at 45 I have very few 'real' friends.
    3. I've never been afraid of getting older, in fact I've always looked forward to it, but this failing eyesight bit sucks.
    4. I've always looked 10 years younger than I am, even when I was 10!
    5. 2 best things in my life were 1) Having a Pituitary tumour removed and recovering nicely. And 2) Meeting my soul mate and growing old with her.
    6. One of the best things I ever did was sell everything I owned and went to the USA, bought a Harley and spent the next year touring/exploring on my own. Camping whenever I could. It was a bloody wet year though.
    7. Have always loved shooting and wanted to be a gamekeeper.
    8. My Grandad was a water 'bailiff'.
    9. Went to college to learn Agriculture.
    10. Then wanted to be a stunt man, which got me sidetracked into the film industry.
    11. Still love shooting. Just bought a Remmington U/O 12g.
    12. I live with, and married a psychic. So every day is an adventure!!
    13. I love my kids.

    years.

    19. I hate injustice.
    20. I believe I am a re-incarnated door gunner (Vietnam) amongst other things.
    21. I fear for what the world will be like for my 8yr old when she grows up.

I was born in Albany, NY, and lived there for the first 18 years of my life.

    My initials spell MAN

After graduating from college, I spent a year teaching English in Japan.

During my time there, I climbed Mt. Fuji in August 1995...

... in the dark. (It's tradition to begin the climb around 10 PM in order to be on top by sunrise - 4:00 AM). Most people drive up to Station 8 and then climb to Station 15 or 16.

I learned to fly fish in 2005. I have caught 4 trout with my fly rod. I think I'm not doing something right.

My wife is my soul mate, and my brother is my best friend.

I like sushi and prefer to eat Asian food with chopsticks. Sometimes people think I'm a snob about the type of white rice I prefer. I like what I like.

Sometimes I care too much what people think about me, especially those close to me.

    I cannot stand injustice.

Having an 8 year old makes me want to be a better dad.

I love my own parents and respect them more than anyone I've ever met.

I've never hunted, but want to.

    I got into camping when I was 30 years old. I'm 36.

I read, on average, at least 1 book a week. 2 so far this week. See my post in the Official Book Thread http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f...?t=5483&page=9

I have read The Lord of the Rings about 6 or 7 times

I've learned a lot from this forum and have enjoyed reading about your experiences. I wish to have many more of my own.

    Thanks for reading this.

Wow, the list I could write could vary so much just based on my mood, what I read before posting, or what I did this morning.

    1) I started backpacking as a way to get my girlfriend alone in the woods before I had my own place.
    2) When I first started with the Forest Service in 1987 my diet was so bad (all sugar and red meat) that I could barely hike five miles a day.
    3) In 2006 I did a 24 hour mountain bike duo (two person relay race for 24 hours) and we each did 165 miles with 10,500' of climbing and beat the second place team by 83.5 miles.
    4) I've had to use a space blanket or space bag three times in my life where I'm certain I'd be dead without it (one time a trash bag pinch hit).
    5) I was raised Conference Baptist as a kid and spent most of the rest of my life rebelling against religion, but I live by values I learned and I'm very grateful for that.
    6) While doing some research for work on Islam, I decided that if I was to do it all over again and had a choice in my upbringing, I would have chosen a moderate Islamic upbringing over Christianity. Christmas makes me eat too much, Ramadan would help me stay thin. (no, I have no intention of converting, I just found it a fascinating religion that "makes more sense" as far as internal consistencies. I believe all great religions have the best of intentions but have been damaged by man's interpretations and ego)
    7) I started running to train for a five week backpacking trip.
    8) I started biking because of the stress fractures I got from running while training for a marathon.
    9) I love working out and playing hard because it keeps me from feeling guilty when I sit on the couch all day watching the Discovery Channel afterwards.
    10) I like round numbers.
    I'll rest when I'm dead...

    Let's see...

I'll be 27 in April, yet most people think I look 21 or so. However, when I was 21 (in all seriousness) people thought I looked around 28 or 29.

    I've never flown on anything.

I absolutely HATE an untidy house, and I enjoy cleaning it.

The 11 ounce Outback sirloin is the best steak I have ever eaten, and they're no matter where or when I get them. Also, from Outback I friggin love me some Aussie Cheese Fries and that kickin ranch dip stuff.

Raw carrots are my favorite veggie.

I can't think of any cooked veggie that isn't better with cheese.

I'm profoundly right handed although I only brush my teeth with my left hand.

The seam on the toe of my socks must be perfectly placed or I don't feel right all day.

I do indeed suck taco bell mild sauce straight from the packet. lmao

My Christmas decorations are STILL up. Everything is tidy though.

I absolutely hate it when rain water drips off a roof or tree limb and goes down the back of my collar.

Mickey Mouse is my favorite cartoon character.

I would like to be driven everywhere I go rather than me do the driving.

A bird has pooped on my head twice in my life.

I only like to eat a sandwich on sliced bread if the bread is toasted.

There is a monetary bill in my wallet that's been there since 1999.

The Swiss Army knife that I carry everywhere has been with me since I was in the third grade.

I've never been into video games.

It took me over a decade to beat the original Super Mario Brothers game.

Hmmm thats all that comes to mind at the moment.

    I hate coffee.
