    Default Cold steel Nightshade series

Anybody have any experience with the Cold Steel Nightshade series of non-metallic knifes? I keep looking and wondering if they really have any use...

I've seen them quite a bit at gun and knife shows. While they sure could inflict a lot of damage, the only real purpose I see for them is getting through metal detectors.

I have read that they make it through the metal detectors, but that Mass spectometers pick them up just fine...

Really? I wouldn't think that a mass spec would pick them up. Believe me, I'm not suggesting that somebody should try and get one through security. I just don't see a practical purpose for them --- unless it involves illegal activity.

I think I am going to buy one and see if the lab Mass Spec will pick it up. They are 11 bucks for the Skien Dhu version...

But I'm not going do do anything illegal, just nice to be able to carry something no-metallic sometimes.

One of the shows I went to, the vendor was doing a demo. Not sure of the model or name, but shaped like a large spike. He was "stabbing" some wooden planks, driving it right through. Kind of goobered up the tip a little, but did what it was intended to I guess.

    What's special about the balloon?

Like Crash stated, I don't think they would be practical except for illegal activity. Unless you wanted to store it outside in the weather for secrurity perhaps. Maybe in a potted plant? But how would it help you with it being outside?

I know to some this may come as a shock, but I've got 4 different models. You're all right, that's all they're good for, and it scares the he11 out of me.

tanka, do those Nightshade knifes actually cut? All I've really seen then do is stab and stuff.

The Skean Dhu does, but only due to it being serrated. I have put an "edge" on the Cat Tanto, but it rips more then cuts. They work great in a pinch though.

Sharpening those seems like it'd be awkward. On the Cold Steel Video I saw good ol' Lynn cutting open envolpes and packages with them but that's it.

Plastic can be sharpened to hold a very sharp "slicing" edge.

I use the Delta Darts as tent pegs. They are light and tough as nails. They do have the triangular bladed piece with a ring on the grip. I was thinking about getting one of those cutting off the ring and using it as a spear head.

Now that's a pretty good idea for a multi use item.

I used my GF's black emory board to sharpen it.
I've got the delta dart, jungle dart, skean dhu, cat tanto, and small double edge bootknife.

Man that's quite a collection of the Nightshade series you have there. All those plus the other cold steel knives you have, you're that company's #1 customer.
