wareagle69 I always keep a knife in the Jeep then in the pack I have my 6" fixed blade and my multi tool. For the lighter it's just a plain 'ol lighter. As for a book if my wife is with me she wouldn't shut up long enough for me to read it anyway. lol

Klkak sounds good can't wait to check that out.

a fixed blade and multi tool are great above and beyond that is redundancy, but i would concentrate on a second way of firestarting, as the great wareagle says own these skills and the firesteel is great or i have also purchased the strickforce firesteel recently the steel is great the stricker could be better but what i have done is cut part of a hack saw blade and put that in my leatherman case, if you look inside your leather case there should be a elastic piece there put the saw blade behind there will not interfere with your leatherman

Soooooo Mr. Palerider - having extra blades is redundant, but having extra fire starting methods is......ah nevermind - redundant is good.

palerider, last week when I went hunting I planed on only harvesting 2 deer. However I took about 40 rounds of ammunition with me. I also had one large knife, one medium knife and a small folder and my Leatherman. Oh yea, and a hatchet. Ooo Ooo, and at least 5 ways of starting a fire.

According to your logic I should have only taken 2 rounds for my gun, one knife, a Firesteel and maybe my hatchet.

    Your logic is flawed!

The gear you carry has everything to do with redundancies.

The title of the check list is:

Off road vehicle safety kit checklist

    Not

Off road hiking safety kit checklist

I say, Pay attention boy, I don't like repeating myself.

One more thing. Its "haversack" not halversack.

Palerider, stand up. The chair you are sitting on is muffling your voice.

Doug, don't ever drive across Bodenburg creek on the ice. I'm telling you this from experience.
