Question Guns and ammo are "evaporating"

Hi, Guys/Gals. New here. Since late March, our storable food business has been booming, 5x normal sales.

After the election, the "boom" stopped. I sent a newsletter to my 4,800 subscribers asking them what they were NOW doing with their money.

Overwhelmingly, they were buying guns and ammo in preparation for them being outlawed by the incoming *****

Three owners of gunshops wrote to say they couldn't keep weapons and ammo stocked ... and that their distributors had run out of stock. (One of them used the "evaporating" word.)

What's the situation where you live? Is this truly a nationwide happening, or only in a few states?

    Best regards,

    Bruce

Okay, well, welcome I guess. Nothing like starting your very first post advertising your site and talking politics, which is banned of course. You would have known that if you had read the forum rules.

Why not drag your storable food business over to the Introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself? That's always a good place to start.

As for the guns and ammo thing. I would speculate it has a whole lot more to do with the state of the economy than with the election. Uncertainity always brings about panic disorders.

Sorry to have broken the rules, Rick. I was using terminology from my subscribers' replies, not intending a political discussion. I was *really* hoping to see if this gun-buying frenzy is going on everywhere or not. (We've had economic uncertainties at other times, and I don't remember Americans hording guns and ammo then. Maybe I missed it....)

    Again, my apologies.

I haven't noticed anything like that here. Some people are stocking up on supplies, but that happens here before winter anyway. The guns and ammo are still easy to come by, although some guns might be harder to find.

Guns and ammo are still plentiful here in Florida. Sales are up quite a bit and a lot of the dealers/shops are playing on peoples fears about the ability to purchase weapons in the near future (smart marketing). They are selling a lot, there are a lot available.

A couple of weeks ago,wave3 in Louisville did a story on gun/ammo sales there,of course the sales were up on ammo, but the biggest increase in gun sales were the fully automatic rifles, sales of those were up over 500%.

Interesting, Raymond. I notice you live in the "far North". Makes me wonder if this is a "Southern" phenomenon.

I noticed 9mm was on back order at a lot of shops this past week. At least the brand I wanted was. Lot's of other 9mm stock available.

Loincloths are hard to find, loincloth retailers say that the jobbers and wholesalers are low on inventory. Maybe it was the "Gay Bear" print that started the run on loincloths. Prices are up 53% and demand is still high.

Only the leather ones. You can still find the elastic ones pretty cheap.

Hope - I was really interested in hearing about the black wolf at your door. Keep an eye out for this critter though.

My gun dealer friend had the best show he's had in his 20+ years in the biz. He did $23,000 in two days, but now he can't find stock to replace what he sold. He said the hardest things to get are AR type rifles and pistols with hi-cap mags. The hardest of those being Glock, S&W M&P's, and Springfield XD's.

Went in to the Bass Pro Shops today and they told me they have been selling 5 times as many guns as they were before November 4th.

I, of course, bought a few new guns since than as well.. Getting them while I can.

Sportsman's warehouse up here in Alaska is totally out of ammo right now. But most of the smaller gun shops still have plenty.

Crash, I have no room for any more guns also. The only way I would ever have an AR style rifle again is if someone gave it to me or I found it.

I'm sure if I ever needed one there will be lots of them laying around on the ground. (We were soldiers) great movie

I've got one "black rifle". The ones that see the most use are the 22's (Marlin and Ruger).
