Default A Cap For Ta Woods

Hunting season is coming up. This year I'm going to buy something I've wanted for quite a few years. I'm going to buy a blaze orange Stormy Kromer!

When I was a kid, you could easily tell the men who really spent time in the woods. They all wore Stormy Kromers. I had a navy blue one for many years. That was the prevalent color.

I got a red one for hunting, but then the powers that be decided blaze orange was the color for hunting - so I couldn't use my red one for hunting anymore.

City folks sometimes call them Elmer Fudd caps. Shows what they know. Stormy Kromers have been keeping heads warm around here for over 100 years.

This year, I decided I would have to get an orange Stormy Kromer. I got it in waxed cotton instead of the original wool. Should work better to keep the wet off my head if it rains.

I just received this message in my e-mail from the Stormy Kromer people:

    "Dear MR Raised By Bears,

Just thought we would let you know that in just a few minutes, your order #XXXXXXXXX will be carefully removed from our Stormy Kromer shelves, placed into some sort of container, and sent on its way to you. And if it's cold where you are, then you are correct in feeling pretty darn good about that. If it's warm where you are, keep it to yourself... no point in rubbing it in.

Prior to its departure, a semi-qualified team of almost 50 inspectors (actually, it'll be just one person, but she's really good) will check your order to make sure it passes muster. Our "packing specialist" will then ask for a collective moment of silence, and a reverent calm will fall over the entire factory as we all watch her place your order into some sort of shipping thingamajig.

Of course, all of this excitement will give rise to a big party afterwards, resulting in the whole factory taking the remainder of the day off to walk your package to the local post office, where most of our town will show up and join in to wish it a cheerful Bon Voyage!

Once your order has shipped, the party is over and everyone’s back to work, we’ll be in touch with your tracking number.

I hope you enjoyed shopping with us. As you can tell, we sure do. In fact, we are considering nominating you for Customer of the Year!" We'll see.

Filson, makes that hat with a different clasp. It is waxed cotton shell and merino wool liner. I find it works better in the rain if I wear it with the bill to the back. My only complaint is, I don't like having my hearing impaired. But then I don't like cold ears either.

Gee's I didn't think they still made those. Those are what you wore deer hunting forty five years ago, when I started. I am partial to a Tilly hat, but I am going to have to get me one. And its going to be Elmer Fudd Red.

I'm a big fan of Mushers Caps..they have a small bill, and bigger ear flaps that fasten under your chin. They are warmer than the Stormy Kromer style.

I also like a classic red toque
