You can use a strong leaf tea made from Black Walnut to repel insects. I've even hear a sprig of black walnut placed over your ear will keep the skeeters off your face and neck.

You can also rub the leaves of the Pineapple plant on your skin to repel insects and relieve itching. I tried to find some Pineapple plant last week-end to post some pictures but didn't luck out.

I've heard that about rhubarb leaves as well, but I've never tried it myself. I think the sprig of black walnut thing would work because the mosquitoes would be too busy laughing and pointing at you to land and bite

"Look at the joker with the leaves in his ear, hahahahahahah"
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Rhubarb leaves are poisonous. The stems are edible, and if you need an effective laxative, use the roots. As far as the leaves as an insect repellent, if they are boiled in water the resulting liquid does make an effective insect repellent. I would NOT use this spray on people or pets. It may be effective at keeping leaf eating insects out of your garden. The LD 50 of this mixture can be as low as 375 (most pesticides I use have an LD 50 of over 2000). The lower the number, the more hazardous the product. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb

Geees, Mitch. The one opportunity we have to get rid of the guy and you up and tell him it's poisonous!!!

Yeah. I looked it up and apparently they are. "Rhubarb leaves contain oxalic acid, a corrosive and nephrotoxic acid"

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb

    Nephrotoxic acid sounds interesting.

I hate misquitoes. Most citrus plants will repel them.

Any time Ryleyboy. There is a wealth of information contained in this forum. It just takes a bit of perusing to dredge it up.

I've heard smearing your body with honey or maple syrup works great.
