    Default Knife with embedded compass

I just saw a hunting knife with a compass embedded in the handle. Doesn't the steel interfere with the compass??? It just sounded crazy to me.

    (No, I'm not getting one.)

If it is a magnetiv compass then yes, I think the knife you are looking at is a Hollywood survival knife, Desined for looks rather than to work

Perhaps it was made with a non-ferous metal.

i've always been told and have read it somewhere that if the compass is not removed, sharpening the knife will magnetize the compass.

I'll bet Coot wishes he had one on the handgun he lost.

Or at least one on the knife so it could have shown him the way back.

You'd think Coot would have taught that knife to drop kernels of corn along the trail.

I imagine that he tried. You know how it is - some are just duller than others and never seem to get the point.

If you'd really paid attention to Rambo you'd understand that all you need is the knife with the compass, a head band, AND a .50 caliber machine gun. then you can take on the Nat'l Guard and Brian Dennhey- the knife alone isn't enough.

Would stainless steel affect the compass? Is stainless ferromagnetic?

I think the knife was stainless.

You can't be serious about this knife can you? Are you thinking about getting one of these? If so, I'd skip it and get a solid shank through handle one and get a separate lensatic compass or orienteering compass with map scale markings and ruler on it.

Especially if the knife has a hollow handle for 'survival gear'. Those knives are neat for made in China affecianados only.

Ya you don't want a hollow handle, those things will break and all you'll have left is a crappy blade, when you need a knife.

Nope, I'm not getting one. I just had to laugh when I saw it. I did get one of those "survival knives" from China in highschool. It's a piece of crap.
