Default A couple of boys in the backyard

A couple of days ago I took the boys out to the back yard where I’ve built them a tarp shelter. We fooled around a bit and had a good time.

We spotted this big black snake

He shook his tail at me and stared me down after I touched him.

    He climbed up pretty high

Pulled up a root and showed it can be used as cordage as is, or twisted into something stronger.

    Another buddy we found.

And I showed them a spring snare. Yes, the trigger stick should have been on the other side of the pounded stakes (or the ramp and bait on the other side), but I wanted them to see exactly how it works.

All three of us had a good time together and will look back on it fondly.

I loved those days with my boys. An older friend once told me "Alan, take those boys of yours hunting, fishing, camping as much as you can because someday, it'll be over. And when it's over, ... it's over..." He was right.

So, whenever you can do whatever with them, do it...

It's a blessing to be able to do it. The family spent last weekend with me camping. Good times for sure.

No kid ever regrets time spent in the woods.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
