    Default Family kayaking trip

Since my kids have been there to pick me up from my kayaking trips, they’ve been wanting to join me. I have two fishing kayaks, but they are a bit too big and the kids a bit too small to comfortably use them. Also, while we have life jackets, I’d prefer them to not get in deep water. So we boarded up the family, minus the youngest 2.5 year old, and went to an outfitter to drop us off on some smooth, slow moving water on Broad river. The outfitter recommended a youth kayak for my oldest (9), and for my middle (6, will be 7 in a few days) to ride between either mine or my wife’s legs. We did just under 6 miles in about 3 hours with a break for a quick lunch on a sandbar. We saw lots of turtles, a couple and their dog on the bank, geese and other birds, butterflies, and a deer.

Looks like we will have to be picking up some youth kayaks in the near future.

What great fun. My family and I did the same thing when the kids were little. Wonderful memories. Loads of fun.

Building a love of the outdoors in the kiddos is a great investment.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
