Your priorities are shelter, fire, water in that order. Food is not a priority for a long time.
And how stands the city on this winter night? More prosperous, more secure, and happier than it was eight years ago. But more than that; after two hundred years, two centuries, she still stands strong and true on the granite ridge, and her glow has held steady no matter what storm.....Ronald Reagan Farewell Address 1/11/89

When venturing into the wilderness either alone, or with a group make sure that a responsible person knows exactly where you are going and exactly when you will return, with instructions to get help if you don't.

I was going to say "Don’t eat yellow snow" but I guess that’s already covered in the Don't drink urine post" and Beo did say keep it serious...although I think it is a serious…Oh never mind.

Have to disagree with you glocker. Not necessarily in that order. Depends on the circumstance. Your could have great shelter, can easily make fire and have no access to water. You list is correct minus the "in that order".

Always carry a topo and/or satellite map of the area.

Fresh pine needles can be crushed or bruised and steeped in water to replenish electrolytes and vitamin C.

Remeber your brain is the most important tool you have. And that if even you have nothing you can use your brain to create everything needed to survive.

Be creative. Try to think of every way you can use the items you have. Virtually every item has several uses.

Your clothing is your first and finest shelter so dress for the worst conditions your area can dish out in that season. If you can't stop and rest in your clothes/rain gear then you are underdressed. Mac
