    Default How stupid is this?!

So I get this notification from the NYPDn in an email and I am scratching my head.
Who did they have in mind here...certainly not criminals. And law abiding citizens like me would be insane to act on it, considering how much a permit costs, the waiting period and the hoops one has to jump through to purchase a firearm.

I have to believe this only happens in blue states.

Nearly all of my guns are worth more than $200.

I may try that scheme though.

Set up a table on the side of the road. "No Questions asked"! $200 for you assault rifles!

It happens in Red states too. The really funny thing about it is that when one is set up in our city, there are usually at least a couple of "booths" set up across the street with big signs that read something like We'll pay more than the police for your gun. Perfectly legal in Florida.

They did that a few years ago in Illinois. A gun club turned in absolutely worthless, broken and rusted weapons. They then took the money and taught kids how to shoot. Brilliant!

I am thinking of going in with a couple of real looking toy guns to see what they say.
I am told they are dangerous and you will get arrested or shot if you point it at someone here in the city.

Just be very careful. Nowadays LEO's have a pretty dim view of "Fake/toy" guns. Last month one of our County Deputies arrested a gentlemen with a Glock that he had spray painted blue to make it look like a "trainer". The Arrest had nothing to do with procession of a firearm. he was in violation of a "VPO" (Victims Protective Order" at his EX's residence

Absolutely right, we don't even joke about it except here.
I know LE has no sense of humor when it comes to these things and we aren't taking any chances. In fact, everyone here in NYC goes a little nuts when anything even remotely related to firearms is mentioned so we stick to one safe topic: our crazy mayor who has united everyone from all sides in their deep loathing for him.

No Bee it happens in Indiana and has for sometime. The lines to sell guns is ridiculous. The family heirloom guns sold because the person hates guns is stupid. If you have a broken gun that can't be fixed or the cost to fix it exceeds the value of the weapon, then its a win for the seller as that is more than they would get trying to sell it to another individual.

The guns traded for cash or gift cards (there is no buyback, and the entity doing the offer never owned the weapons in the first place) are supposed to be destroyed, believe that a check is ran against each serial number to see if the weapon was involved in any gun crime, but also I know a couple guys who helped take the weapons in at one of these events, they went through the weapons and bought the ones they wanted for what the entity paid for it during the event. This is simply a way to rip off the idiot who believe guns are bad.

I the last event I know of held here, a gun trader set up a table across the street from the "buyback" and offered $100 for each weapon someone wanted to sell. He was on private property and wasn't selling anything, so nothing the entity could do about it.

At least this on is offering $200 for the handguns and semi-automatic rifles, here they offered the same $25 for guns of all types. THis only means the booth across the street needs to bring more cash.

Jim, This will be the best thing that happened to the firearms industry since Obama was elected!

    @kyrat, how do you figure?

If we don't keep the Senate, anything can happen with this misguided, corrupt bunch that will be in power.
Wish I was as optimistic as you.

I am/was a history teacher, my job of a lifetime has been remembering things.

Everyone seems to forget that the Obama administration introduced us to something that had never been seen in America outside of a war time economy, shortages in guns and ammo supply due to excess demand.

For 8 years we saw record firearms sales and the industry went into a slump when Trump was elected due to the feeling of safety gun owners seemingly forgot about when they voted for Biden this go around.

They also forgot about forced privately purchased insurance mandates, uncontrolled immigration, as well as uncontrolled socialism and its necessary tax burden.

You don't think Phiser waited to announce a flu vaccine until a week after the election without a plan do you? This vaccine will not be tested and made available until after Obamacare is reinstated. Your government mandated private insurance will have to pay them big money for every jab, no matter what price they ask. Your monthly payments, guarenteed by the government, will reflect the cost in your rates.

We will soon be swamped once again with new forum members asking how to get out of this rat race and where to go for their free land and unhindered lifestyle.

BTW has anyone considered the fact that Biden will die of old age at the exact point in time where Harris will be eligible for two additional terms on the sympathy vote? Harris was their actual candidate and they will be able to run her for a ten year span. Biden is just a puppet with no real thought process of his own left in that senile brain. He will be kept as quiet as possible and out of sight as much as possible until his end comes. I guarantee they will keep him off twitter!

As for the corruption and insanity of politicians? What is new about that? We have been dealing with it since 1776.

And as for firearm ownership and regulation???? In 1775 a group of men gathered at Concord Bridge and blocked the duly appointed and authorized government troops sent to confiscate their firearms and arrest their leaders. They were willing to die to protect their inalienable rights guarenteed by their Creator from the forces of the government that ruled them.

They fought a battle, then a very long war, then they founded a new nation such as the world had never seen based on rights God bestowed and no man could remove.

    Just a historical note.

I see where you were coming from...totally agree, especially on Harris' envisioned track to presidency. God help us.

As far as the firearms industry doing well...it did under Obama, just as you described, but this is a more radical bunch and my fear is that they'll impose new regulations and excessive taxation. They may not be able to confiscate firearms from law abiding citizens but they may come at it from the opposite end. They have already shown themselves to be devious and unscrupulous.

Do the same people who want more stringent and mandatory background checks want us to turn our arms over to them without any background check?

I guess if you had a crappy enough gun you could get something out of it. I can't prove the veracity but I've heard that with some of these no-questions-asked turn-ins people will use them to ditch guns used in crimes without being linked to them. I dunno, just rumors. Some churches seem to have a mission to collect guns and get 'em "off the street" but I don't have anything I'd turn in for $200.

It may sound silly, but suddenly someone was disappointed that they had acquired a weapon? Or the person's life circumstances and priorities have changed. My sister has such a child that she will fit anywhere. They had to do everything they could to install locks. Especially in the kitchen, which is full of all kinds of good that can be injured. In such cases, it may be necessary to abandon the firearm. Well that's just an example.
