    Default How stupid is this?!

So I get this notification from the NYPDn in an email and I am scratching my head.
Who did they have in mind here...certainly not criminals. And law abiding citizens like me would be insane to act on it, considering how much a permit costs, the waiting period and the hoops one has to jump through to purchase a firearm.

I have to believe this only happens in blue states.

Nearly all of my guns are worth more than $200.

I may try that scheme though.

Set up a table on the side of the road. "No Questions asked"! $200 for you assault rifles!

It happens in Red states too. The really funny thing about it is that when one is set up in our city, there are usually at least a couple of "booths" set up across the street with big signs that read something like We'll pay more than the police for your gun. Perfectly legal in Florida.

They did that a few years ago in Illinois. A gun club turned in absolutely worthless, broken and rusted weapons. They then took the money and taught kids how to shoot. Brilliant!

I am thinking of going in with a couple of real looking toy guns to see what they say.
I am told they are dangerous and you will get arrested or shot if you point it at someone here in the city.

Just be very careful. Nowadays LEO's have a pretty dim view of "Fake/toy" guns. Last month one of our County Deputies arrested a gentlemen with a Glock that he had spray painted blue to make it look like a "trainer". The Arrest had nothing to do with procession of a firearm. he was in violation of a "VPO" (Victims Protective Order" at his EX's residence

Absolutely right, we don't even joke about it except here.
I know LE has no sense of humor when it comes to these things and we aren't taking any chances. In fact, everyone here in NYC goes a little nuts when anything even remotely related to firearms is mentioned so we stick to one safe topic: our crazy mayor who has united everyone from all sides in their deep loathing for him.

No Bee it happens in Indiana and has for sometime. The lines to sell guns is ridiculous. The family heirloom guns sold because the person hates guns is stupid. If you have a broken gun that can't be fixed or the cost to fix it exceeds the value of the weapon, then its a win for the seller as that is more than they would get trying to sell it to another individual.

The guns traded for cash or gift cards (there is no buyback, and the entity doing the offer never owned the weapons in the first place) are supposed to be destroyed, believe that a check is ran against each serial number to see if the weapon was involved in any gun crime, but also I know a couple guys who helped take the weapons in at one of these events, they went through the weapons and bought the ones they wanted for what the entity paid for it during the event. This is simply a way to rip off the idiot who believe guns are bad.

I the last event I know of held here, a gun trader set up a table across the street from the "buyback" and offered $100 for each weapon someone wanted to sell. He was on private property and wasn't selling anything, so nothing the entity could do about it.

At least this on is offering $200 for the handguns and semi-automatic rifles, here they offered the same $25 for guns of all types. THis only means the booth across the street needs to bring more cash.
