I suppose widows and other folks that inherit guns yet aren't "gun people" also do these turn-ins. I know a good amount of families where the husband or grandpa has some firearms but the wife or grandmother has no interest in guns at all. A very high percentage of people don't have written wills or directives, and the surviving family may have little interest in the gun collection. In lucky cases a trusted family friend might step in an help but in many cases the guns are given away, taken to a pawn shop, etc.

What is the old joke? Dear lord, when I die may my wife sell my guns for what they're worth, not what I told her I paid for them.
