Default Recommendations: a can opener that works longer than an afternoon

I have purchased 3 different can openers in the last few months, none of them can open a can, at all. I’d have better luck just stabbing at the can. There just isn’t enough grip/depth to the cut, and I end up making a jagged mess. Figured you all may have a go-to that really lasts.

It wouldn't do any good. All of India is on lockdown so you wouldn't be able to purchase one. Just use a sharp knife. If you don't have a sharp knife then use a dull knife and a hammer. If you don't have that then stick in in the microwave and hold a metal trash can lid in front of you while standing in the farthest room of your house behind a solid door. I guarantee that can will open with a bang.

Reminds me of this old WB cartoon. If all you got is canned food, the one with the can opener wins.

A P51 might work. It's old school, but they're small and easy to carry.

One of the popular prepper beliefs is that the pop top cans dont last as long on the shelf. I dont know if it's true but I do know I have dozens of those cheap little aluminum things.

Hey, Rick. Stop banning Spammers. If it weren't for them, and the virus, there wouldn't be any activity on the forums.

I've still got mine from basic training in 77.
If by what I have learned over the years, allow me to help one person to start to prepare. If all the mistakes I have made, let me give one person the wisdom that allows them to save their life or the life of a loved one in an emergency. Then I will truly know that all the work I have done will have been worth every minute.

I'm a bit surprised anything has held up that long. My socks haven't. My underwear hasn't. I'm gonna have spring for new ones one of these days.

I use the one my dad gave me, it is some kind of a military issue opener. Never lets me down.
