Default Starting a fire with a battery and paracord.

Hi all, been experimenting with starting a fire using a 12 volt battery, some small stranded (speaker wire), short piece of paracord and an accelerant.

Strip about 1/2 inch and open up the ends of the wire so only a few short at a time to keep the wire from overloading a getting hot. There is more then enough energy in the battery to set the whole section of wire on fire. The open ends creates in effect fuses that limit the current and keep the rest of the wire cool and much safer.

This battery is half the size of a car battery and is much bigger then needed.

Cut off a section of paracord and fray the ends by hand.

Scrap the sides and ends of the rope/cord with a knife to fray even more.

Ready to apply the accelerant, The frayed paracord acts like a net and catches the tiny sparks from the wire ends.

Some notes - paracord by itself will not catch a spark and burn but with a little spray from a can of WD-40 it will. Other accelerants are likely to work too. Cotton rope will work without the accelerant. As will a cotton ball or jute twine.

The rope processing above works great with a ferro rod too.

The battery and wire combo above also work on char punk wood. Seems like a good thing to file away in ones bag of tricks in case it is ever needed as a battery and wire are almost always near by.
