My nephew in law just killed a coon with one of those cocking pellet rifles that can send a 177 1200FPS.

As for traps I have a double spring #3 leg trap I've had since I was a kid that I welded jaws made out of nails onto, Right nasty piece of work and a last option but I dig out a patch of dirt to place it in and then hollow out under the traps trigger a little and throw some canned sardines under there then sprinkle the dirt back over top gently so it makes them dig for it.

Usually I'll set it up with drag and then a length of chain around a tree.

You could also soak some meat chunks in antifreeze (ethylene glycol) and use that as well, They get drunk and go to sleep and don't wake up.

You could also use a spade bit to drill a hole in a stump and drive a nail down at an angle in there to create a hand hold trap, Little buggers jam their hand in there trying to get the bait and gets them stuck trying to pull it out.

Keep in mind the traps don't care what all gets into them so use accordingly.
