Here is my perspective on this:

While no one swore an oath of loyalty when signing up here... to post a competing forum here is in my personal opinion very bad form.

I see it as spam and while I like the canned meat by the same name, I despise Internet spam.

I don't know if the owner of this forum relies on it in any way for livelihood or is just hoping to break even - regardless there are costs involved with running a site like this: hosting, vBulletin is not open source (e.g. it is not free), personal time.

To me hyping a competing forum here is like going into a bricks and mortar store and handing out brochures for a competing store down the street. If I were the owner or manager of that store, I'd politely and with justification invite you to leave.

I sort of take the opposite approach: when I see an ad here that is interesting I will click on it - even if I am not immediately in the market for what the ad promotes. That is giving my support to the owner of this site (plus telling friends and family)

There's my 0.02 cents if ya know what I mean.

You may actually want to go back and read through the posts. There was very little "picking" on anybody going on. There really was only one inflamatory post (and fairly mild at that). Just kind of looked like people expressing their views on a thread that you started. Most respectful, some with humor. Read through some of the threads where somebody really PO'd the other members (Batcat comes to mind). This was not an attack on an indiviual, but rather opinions on forum etiquete.
