    Default North Maine Woods

Just came back from the north maine woods after spending about ten days there. My SIL is stationed there in the Navy as a SERE instructor. I flew in to Boston and checked out the USS Constitution. Then we drove up to Mt Katadin and spent the night in a adirondack shelter and then into the North Maine Woods and spent a night there.

The SIL had a bear hunt booked at Oxbow Outfitters. We spent the week in a little log cabin. Sadly the first day of the hunt the houndsman lost his best dog. It took to the next Saturday to bag a bear. It took the other dogs that long to learn to work together.

In the afternoons we hunted partridge, bagged five and found three moose sheds. Went for some hiking, it's real easy to find my fitness level or lack of when hiking with a 29 year old SERE instructer. Dang, I need to start working out.

I'll try to scrounge up some photos.

That does sound like a nice trip. Never marry a woman that can thump you without a skillet. You should have given your brother better advice. Pics or it didn't happen.

Pretty darn cool. The leaves are turning already up there.

They are, from my area they are over there. Southern Maine has folks called leaf peepers that come to look at the colors.

Awesome. I guess I'm a leaf peeper too. Heading to the mountains in a couple of weeks to peep.

One of my friends is heading to Maine this week. I asked him if he was going up to peep. He said yes and he's British! I really didn't realize the leaves were already turning. That must have been a beautiful trip.

They predicted an early and brutal winter and we had our first real snow yesterday. Our puppy was ecstatic. I was ecstatic.
True enough, my final home is still out there, but this is most certainly my home range and I love it. I love every rock I fall off and tree I trip over. Even when I am close to dying from exhaustion, a beautiful sunset doesn't lose it's power to refresh and inspire me and that, in itself, is enough to save me sometimes.

Cripes. It's mid October. It's not even Holloween. Of course they have Christmas decorations out in the stores so I guess snow in Denver isn't too much of a stretch.

Yeah, it was probably a promotional.

Ohh! Christmas the Movie! "Yeah. I'm comin' to town."
