    Default 22 rimfire reloads

Probably not going to save anybody much money on 22 ammo. But, maybe someday, after the apocalypse, when we're sitting around a small fire wishing there was some way to get close enough to a jackrabbit to kill it with a stick, this might come in handy to know, and know how.

I have no connection to these folks.

Academically interesting but I think I'll pass.

I understand. I may try it once just to see if it works. I'll just put it in the notebook of how to do things I'll probably never have to do. It's good to keep skills alive, even if it's just on life support.

I'm not sure I'll spring for the $89 bullet mould. I have been wanting a 22 cal (.224) mould though. Those bullets could be cut down.

His end of world scenario is pretty funny and scary enough to be true.

The reign of the Immaculate One, and the possibility that Hillary might have been elected and I might someday be required to improvise primers and powder, was the reason for my purchase of several pistol caliber carbines and cast bullet molds for my .223 SS and bolt action rifles along with the near complete abandonment of the .22lr cartridge.

Rather than stock 5K .22 cartridges I stocked a bunch of K primers which I can use for any caliber I have and all of them work better than a .22.

BTW it is much easier to rebuild center-fire primers than rim-fire, which is one reason they came into prominence within a few decades of cartridge invention. They were more consistent from shot to shot than rim-fire during those early years of production under what we would call the crude kitchen table methods or survival reloading.

I don't discard any tools in my tool box.

Rebuilding or building centerfire primers would be good to learn too.

I just went out and bought another 5000 rounds so I never have to do that.

I won't "have" to do it either. I don't have to start a fire with flint and steel either, but I still do it from time to time.

It is all an academic exercise.

Besides the fact that I do not consider the .22lr an essential part of my shooting battery. I have not shot 50 rounds of .22 in a single year since the first Obama election.

I will never have to rebuild a .22lr shell anyway.

The ammo shelf life is far longer than my shelf life.

The meds will run out and I will die of heart attack long before the bullets run out.

I suppose I view it as simply keeping some knowledge alive, whether it's ever used or not. Of course where to obtain priming compound or greenie stickum caps is going to be an issue as well.

I used to use 22lr with some regularity on rats, snakes and other assorted varmint. Lately, when I am at the ranch, I am more substantially armed since more of the varmintry walks on two legs and comes 25 at a time, looking for a ride.

Before the days of UDA mass transit through South Texas my go-to sidearms consisted of a Ruger Mk I, II, a Colt Woodsman, a Ruger Single six, or even a S&W K22. Now I carry a Glock 17 and have a lot less fun.

But, I still like the 22 in all its flavors.

Ok, I need to know how to rebuild center-fire primers? Since it is 42 degrees today and we don't leave for Florida for another month, I
    need a new project.
