Hi all, I wanted to see if I could make a striker from a bearing race and found a good candidate from a marine transmission that got water in it making the bearing rough and not usable as a bearing anymore. Was able to hot cut it with chisel about 90 percent but had to use the angle cutter for the last bit. After it was cut it was easy to straighten out and work on the anvil. The grove for the ball bearing is still easy to see in the final product. It was quenched in cooking oil and it got fairly hard. The file mostly skates but bits just a little. Makes sparks on flint and I was able to light a piece of charcloth with it. Was a fun project and good forging practice.
