    Default making a coffee table

Last summer I dug up a root ball in preparation to make a coffee table. It cured all summer and most of the winter. The other day I started putting it together. here's a few progress photos

not sure what to use for a top, I'll ruminate on it for a spell. There is a bit to go yet, a top, some cleanup and whatnot

so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

I looked for pictures but could not find them. I made a coffee table about 5-6 years ago out of mesquite. I cut slabs out of a tree trunk that was about 18" in diameterI put two matching slabs together and cut one edge off and then glued the two slabs together. I put more slabs for the legs. With a wire wheel I took off the bark and white wood but leaving the natural contours of the tree. Sanding was a chore. I used ten belts and an entire package of assorted sheets. Did a gloss poly finish. It weighs around 150#.

I took another pic and one of a smaller version that I use for bedside table had to get something sturdy enough to hold the CPAP.

The smaller table is made from a slab of mesquite burl.

Randy, if you cut and oval slab out of a log about 18" You can attach it to the legs and I believe it will be quite stable. Knock the bark off with a 4" grinder and a stiff wire wheel and you're set for serving coffee.
