These are the ones that contain a bit of lighter fluid, you strike the flint and a wick ignites. 'They' claim they can be used thousands of times.
The reviews on Amazon are mixed though. There are several types offered and naturally the ones that seem the best quality have few reviews. As for the others, I can't really tell if the product is a cheap, poor imitation or just user error as many of them don't appear to have followed instructions nor give reasons for their difficulties.
If you've used them what is your experience / recommendation.
I'd like to keep them with my stoves which means they'll be used often and evaporating fuel shouldn't be an issue as it might be in a BOB.
    TIA

Have used several....picked them up in bulk.

    Down side:
    1) Fluid last a day....maybe.
    2) May leak....(do leak)

    Upside:
    1). mine were very cheap...about a buck each....bought like a dozen.
    2) small, tucks in anywhere....
    3) Looks cool, impress your friends.....(?)
    4) Even without fluid,... is a mini ferro rod and striker. (best reason to carry one)

This in my older belt kit...bottom right with BIC and matches (3 kind of fire)
Orginal had a red plastic version that was cracked....so no fluid would stay......replace with this one.

They make great stones to use for skipping across a pond other than the pollution they cause. POS.

    Same report/results as Hunter.

I have one of them on the lamp table and another unopened in the desk at the moment.

I would rather have a Bic. 3000 cheap convenient lights.

Ferro-rods can be had for $0.75 each. Someone on here said the little ones gave 3000 lights but some of the big ones would last until my grandchildren were old folks.

A good Zippo and refill container will cost $10 at any smoke shop.

You can even buy a waterproof match container at Wallmart for $1 and it will have a ferro-rod glued to the base.

Too much obsessing over trick fire starting devices. Just pick one.

In the hands of the educated and practiced woodsman no one device is going to be better than another. There was a day when a Scout got a badge for starting a fire with one match, now no one uses matches.

ooooh so that is what that thing is,I have one that was given to me by my brother..
it does seem that the fluid would leak or evaporate, but it does do a decent job of being a small ferro-rod...

"Flameless lighter". Is that anything like fat-free butter? ;o)

Heck I thought he was talking about a bic lighter, and was being funny.

I got some to hand out to sons and nephews. Never made it that far. The one I tried was such a piece of carp that I decided not to let anyone know till now that I had bought them. The only good thing about them is the ferro rod. If you like the feeling of lighter fluid leaking down your leg, carry them in your front pocket. Never carry them on your back pocket!
