    Default DoodleBug Tractors....

Discussing Randyt old truck brought to mind a tractor/swamp buggy, early atv....went looking to see if DoodleBug is actually a "Thing....or just a old time local saying......

    https://www.google.com/search?q=dood...r=1.25#imgrc=_

Found all sorts of them on Google images as well as an ad for a couple of Ford Model T tractor conversion kits for $98 bucks...

I love that last picture. If I count correctly there are 7 opinions about whatever they are discussing and two more opinions down by the barn that they will surely have to get before any consensus is drawn.

If you look really hard at the window in the building, there appears to be yet another opinion, staring out at the other nine opinions.

I found some photos of some tractors my granddad made years back.

here's one, I'm presuming it's his personal tractor because that's his dog but he may have been testing the tractor out. He called tractors like this puddlejumpers.

That opinion in the widow maybe having an opinion about the guy relieving himself. I guess the parking brake is inop since the back wheel has a chock.

    LOL....Great examples of "farmer fixin'......
The "discussion" is the early version of forums......still the same number of opinions.

The one I was familiar was built by a friends father......I remember it for the 1950...but who know how long it was around.
Wish I had a pic ...He used 2 Studebaker transmissions back to back....Stude motor and high tractor tires.

So had a double double low....about 2 mile an hour...but could pull you house down if it had traction.

He used it for dragging logs out of the woods....as well as just joy riding thru woods, bogs, marshes......

Also had a pristine Essex in a shed....6" tree had grown up in front of the door...was in there that long.
I still wonder if it was still there.

Gonna have to look up Puddle Jumpers now....LOL.....
    Cool stuff.

That first one, with all the opinions, has also been converted to a wood gassifier system if my eyes do ot fail me.

    It runs on wood!

I'm guessing 1935 to 1950. He made a bunch of them. He told me he had a tough time getting gas tanks during the war, So he made a roller from pipe, gears and flat chain that looked like it came from a piece of farm equipment. He would roll up a cylinder and weld ends into it. I remember the roller, it was stout.

Here is one he made in 1961 or so. It's based on a 1949 dodge. It took my granddad and dad 7 days to build. I've posted photos of this one before.
    .
I still have it and it still runs. I'm replacing the kingpins, the steering got so bad it takes a football field size piece of land to turn it around. Actually I puled a front axle from a old truck frame that's down back. It is identical to this front axle. I have the pins pulled just haven't got around to putting new ones in yet.

fork truck and winch, the winch goes up onto a snatch block at the top of the mast. There is a axle set in the back and cables come off the wheels and go up to snatch blocks. These cables pull the forks up the mast.

Around here, they used to use old stripped down trucks like that to haul the pea viners to the fields at harvest time. They had a DMV tag that read "Farm Use Vehicle".
Got them to the field and hooked the "pea 'bine" to a big tractor.

I have a old early 1950s willys jeep that has seen it's better days. One of these days I'm going to make a puddlejumper from it.
