    We are occasionally cursed with that phenomenon...there's gotta be a name for it...wherein one generation, or a series of generations, busts their butts to build a better world for children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, etc, so that they don't have to bust their butts as badly or make the same sacrifices and make it possible for them to have the opportunity to "fight for higher and laudable causes"...but partially because of that better world, they don't have any sense, are spoiled and feel entitled unjustifiably, and have little understanding of the causes for which they fight and whine about such that they are way off track concerning those causes and often do more damage than good. Real knowledge, including experiential knowledge, must be passed on to each generation...else it might all be a waste.

    ...now that's a long sentence.

    The optimist expects it to change;
    The realist adjusts the sails.

    Hmm.....I'd have to take a hit off the old oxygen bottle.

    Honestly, I'd say that it's a package and it's a very mixed package. I get frustrated with "the youth of today" ignoring the traditions that (fill in the blank) great, and those traditions are precious (a lot of great thinkers including St. Augustine and Sir Isaac Newton have said that the only reason that they could see so far was that they sat upon the shoulders of giants.

    But, then, tradition by itself will only lead to stagnation. It needs to be offset by diversity and creativity. I poke myself occasionally and remind myself of that, and the guy sitting next to me on the bus looks at me sorta funny.....
    True enough, my final home is still out there, but this is most certainly my home range and I love it. I love every rock I fall off and tree I trip over. Even when I am close to dying from exhaustion, a beautiful sunset doesn't lose it's power to refresh and inspire me and that, in itself, is enough to save me sometimes.

    What is very sad and kind of disheartening is that we are concerned that it may NOT be.......

    Reminded me of some of the wonderful people I have dated and wished I had not "unrapped" that dress.
    “There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

    Theodore Roosevelt 1907
