    Default Island Camping

    Hey guys

I found a large island, sparsely inhabited but close to the city, with blackberries and fishing. I'm planning a 2 or 3-day trip later this week to practice survival skills. All advice appreciated!

    Hi,
The only thing apart from shelter (including clothing, which should suit the season) Is there Water sources available like streams, rivers or lakes.
Food will not be an issue for 2-3 day, but water IS.
As desalinating, seas water is a mission of note.
With that in mind, perhaps give a bit more information and I can weigh in with my thoughts.
I would secure a shelter, secure a water source and systems
    Fire wood and tinder.
The rest well.. not really a requirement for that time period.

Shelter is it going to be a natural shelter you make, or you bringing a tarp?

    Items I would bring;
    a water bottle
    A knife
    a ferro rod
    some cordage
    Maybe a tarp
A sleeping bag if needed, or a bivy bag... hell if the weather is half decent I would not bother with a sleeping bag.
    A folding Saw
    A small first aid kit
    A small fishing kit
A head lamp or a flash light
a small cooking pot like a billy can
    A buff
    Sun glasses
    A lighter (back up)
    rescue whistle and signal mirror.
Let people know where you going and when, and when you expect to be back.
Oh And I would carry like ICE details (in case of emergency details like medical, blood group, and allergies, and contact ppl) like on dog tags or somewhere obvious, just in case something happens to you.

The weather will be perfect. 85 degree days without a cloud in the sky. This time of year we often go weeks without rain.

I haven't started assembling supplies...plan on starting out with a bivy bag, water purification kit, some kind of knife (island is full of driftwood and dead wood), and a lighter. And maybe some of the other things on antony's list. I'm sure there will be some things missed but I'll make note of them for the second trip. And if anything goes wrong I'm still just a couple stone throws from the city.

Maybe the fishing kit too, although I have no idea how to use it.

Make sure it isn't private land. Check the regulations on what you can do there, or if you need a permit. If it is close to the city, but not populated much, then it is probably a state park, a national park, or private, all of which have regulations.

Crash makes a very valid point.....
Survival starts with your ideal scenario going sideways.

Thanks for the advice guys. There's a concrete shelter on the west end of the island, so I could always take refuge there on the slim chance the weather goes bad. And yeah it's government land with tents and campfires permitted.

How far is the island from the mainland and how are you getting there?
