    Default A little Geezer History

So it seems that Geezers have been around for 1000's of years, and the first ones lived in a city known as Gezer. Hey they spelled it differently back then! They hung out in the foot hills of the Judean mountains practicing their survival skills, and living off the land, and eventually got in a fight with the Egyptians. The Egyptians kicked their azzes but they didn't get them all.
We don't know exactly where they went after the fight with the Egyptians, but I'm sure glad they got away!Just think, if those Geezers hadn't escaped, this forum would not exist.:Smartass:

Send the Egyptians back, we've had 3,000 years to come up with a new plan.

We'll kick their butts this time!

Well big deal. The Egyptians whipped up on a bunch of old gezers. Doesn't say much for the Egyptians does it? We had trouble reloading bows back then. It'll be a different story reloading this time. Our aim might still be off but we'll make up for it with our new spray and pray technique.

Y'know....the Israelites whipped up on a bunch of Shechemites after they were tricked into being circumcised and were still sore. The Athenians whipped up on the Melians who didn't even have a military. What was wrong with people back then?!?!!
True enough, my final home is still out there, but this is most certainly my home range and I love it. I love every rock I fall off and tree I trip over. Even when I am close to dying from exhaustion, a beautiful sunset doesn't lose it's power to refresh and inspire me and that, in itself, is enough to save me sometimes.

You think people are better today?

We have two less tall buildings in NYC to prove they are the same, or worse.

You're right. I once had a (rather hot) argument with a person on a forum about whether there was a such thing as "human nature". Aggression is a solid part of human nature and self-control is a part of growing up. There has always been a large section of humanity that never grows up and, evidently, there have been whole nations full of them.

As for "worse", I personally would agree. When a person pops out, like I just did, with the opinion that things are worse today, someone else invariably returns with Socrates or some other past thinker bemoaning the state of the young people of their day. What I think is different, and far more dangerous is how less connected we are with the people around us. Even 50 years ago, we had relationships with our neighbors. We had to because we had to rely on each other for our well being. Modern technology takes the place of all that, so we don't really have to care about those people (or, we think we don't).

My family just went through a traumatic move because someone in the neighborhood didn't like something about us (our actual neighbors seemed to like us a lot) and reported us for having too many unrelated people in the house (zoning laws). We came very close from being on the streets.

Yeah we didn't even have guns back then, and we were outnumbered to boot.

I would recommend that we go ahead and declare war on them now,

but I can not figure out how we would deal with all the POWs.

Send them over to Goodwill. If that don't keep 'em busy for a bit then make them walk over to Dollar General. Between the two we shouldn't have to be bothered with 'em much. Just keep them away from Dunkin' Doughnuts.
