A Novice from Portland, Oregon

Hello folks

My name is John Yu and I'm a 33 year-old man from Portland, Oregon. I have a specialized skill in translating documents from Chinese to English, but have struggled to find work recently. My lease is up at the end of July and I'm not sure where to go. So I've been researching wilderness survival, and exploring the nearby woods and rivers. I have no experience, but would like to become Huck Finn.

There are many experienced woodsmen here and survival buffs, homesteaders and craftsmen.
my area of interest is Wilderness survival, including but not limited to primitive methods.
I am based in southern Africa, get out often and practice senarious, almost at an instructor level ( we have a system of ranking we use, I am almost an elite survival ranger in our rankings in southern africa)

Welcome home. Maybe less specialized work would help with the lease and the specialized work would help build a buffer. Just a thought.

What you are doing is not connected to wilderness survival in the slightest, it is avoidance of reality.

It might be time to consider getting a "real job", which will be more and more difficult in the Portland area as time passes and their new minimum wage scale takes effect.

A real job and migration may be in your future rather than buying camping gear and seeking a position as a professional Hobbit.
