Thread: Is it possible to wash pesticide off?

Default Is it possible to wash pesticide off?

I know the pesticides used on most commercial farms are water soluble so consumers can eat them after a quick wash. But I just picked hundreds of serviceberries at a local community college and noticed that there was some white powder all over the bushes. I just now made the connection that it is probably some kind of pesticide. Even if the powder wasn't, I am pretty sure that the groundskeepers spray the plants anyway. Can these pesticides be washed off the same way that commercial-grade food pesticide can?

    Thanks!

Were the leaves covered as well? Is so, it was probably powdery mildew. I'd place a call as Hunter suggested. If the grounds folks did spray they can tell you what they used. If they didn't then you can take it to your county extension office and they should be able to tell you what it is.

If you can't find out what it is, throw it out!
Berries are the worst among fruits for being difficult to cleanse from pesticides, mostly because of size, texture and softness. Apples, for example, easier. (this, re. surface cleansing not what the plant might have absorbed while growing.)

Leafy things, like spinach or kale, absorbs easily so you can't wash it off or out, it's already in the leaves...so I'd prefer my leafy stuff to not have been sprayed at all if possible.

Sawfly larvae is probably what they're after. The dust might be diatomaceous earth. I use it to keep slugs off my beans.

Normally, on most school campuses, things that actually kill bugs can't (aren't supposed to) be used. Now if they were from around a commercial establishment, I would be more concerned.

    But, I've been wrong before.

Dude, get up. You're fine. That was just dust or something. But, I've been wrong before.

I love it, Alan. That was the bestest ever. You are going to fit in here just fine. That was waaaay better than my anthrax. (Actually my anthrax was just to mess with the NSA folks. Right now they are running around where ever they run around printing out whatever they print out and pulling up this web site. I just upped the visitor count by at least 3000 as they try to figure out why anthrax was posted. Sir, he did it again!!!.)

Things just went all weird in here. Like I was canoeing one way in a slow river, and there are only so many directions that any current would jostle me, but suddenly I'm wrenched sideways in a way that don't make no sense. No sense a'tall Festus.

Is it fun? Isis and her brother Osiris didn't recruit as many would've liked into Egypt to worship them. Ok, that just sounds stupid.
