    Default placards

Not sure if the title is the correct term. I'm looking for a placard about the size of a pack of cigarettes. I've seen a plastic material about a 1/8 th inch thick, red in color, white on the inside. The outside is engraved and the white shows through. I want make up a few for my gas cans and attach them to the handle with a tie of some sort. This way I can keep track of my mixed gas. Haven't had a problem but don't want a problem either.
so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

If it is, go to you local trophy shop. Tell them you want an engraved nameplate. They will make whatever you want. Size, colors, what it says are all up to you.

I have to order them at work. We get them through a sign shop.

Those are called laminated engraved nameplates. Lamicoid, phenolic, and bakelite is another name for the material. Almost all towns have a vendor that will engrave them for you.

I tried to use a color code tags for my fuels; gas, 2 cycle, kero. diesel.

Over the winter I forgot what the code was!

Best to label or engrave them for sure.

Lamitec, phenolic and bakelight are all HPL or High Pressure laminates. They are expensive and chip too easily when tooled.
Looks like you are looking for this stuff.

It's a softer plastic, easily engraved with a rotary tool. They also have laser engravables but I don't like them they fall apart any time children are involved...they pick the letters off the laser cut stuff. The engraveable stuff is darn near indestructible.

They have a list of distributors at the top of the site.
While a lot of sign shops can get the material, not quite so many actually engrave on site. Many outsource it. Look for someone who does ADA signage, or as mentioned above, a trophy/nameplate shop.

I make my own from recycled heavier colored plastic jugs. Cut them the size and shape I want, our of the color I want, mark them with a Sharpie or paint stick (I also have engraved them with an electric engraver), and either drill a hole in a corner or use a hole punch for attaching them. They have lasted a decade or more so far.
