Can anyone recommend me a person to make custom kydex sheaths? My dad knew a guy that did great work but I never got the name from him. I've got a few that I would like kydex sheaths for but I don't want to mail out a knife to some random dude!![]()

I have not worked with kydex, so take this for what it is worth. It seems reasonably easy to work with and the tools needed look to be minimal, so why not try it yourself?
it is easy, and requires very little tools.
I have made a kydex sheath and it came out decent.

It may not be difficult but I need a sheath, not another hobby!![]()

Thanks for the links! I'll check them out. By chance has anyone here worked with them? Just looking for feedback before I mail a one-of custom off to a stranger.
well good luck on that
coyotes listen to them, like children of the night what music they make.
How can you say the words "one off custom" and kydex sheath in the same thread?
Send it to Crash and let him make you a real sheath. His leather work is as good in the hand as it is in the photos he posts.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?
I have one of Crash's knives and I agree his leather work is first rate. But while I have a broad sentimental streak it doesn't extend at all to gear that I use every day. I have a strong preference for kydex when it comes to holsters and knife sheaths. It's non-hygroscopic and retention is a lot better. Garrett Industries stuff is great for guns; their rigs are kydex but lined with leather. Very awesome! To date I've purchases ten or eleven holsters from them, one for every gun I ever carry. In fact if Garrett doesn't make a rig for a given gun, I probably will not carry that gun.
With knife sheaths I dislike the way leather retains moisture. Storing knives in leather usually results in red rust in my experience. Kydex skillfully molded to a knife affords an excellent degree of retention without needing a suicide strap to keep it in.
I have seen 2 1sr tries using YouTube vids. They were not bad at all. In fact, this thread has inspired me to order some kydex for 2 knives that begs for plastic. And yes I cringed a little when I typed that.
I have SPAM & have good experience with this.

All this reminds me that I need to flatten out some PVC pipe and make a couple of machete sheaths before the next camping trip.

Welcome back Rebel. Good to see ya around.
This is a really old post but I'm curious what you ended up with?
I've done some kydex work, it's ridiculously easy. No tools that you don't have are needed. Well, that is an assumption. I just used my oven, drill, razor knife, and my thumbs. I assume you have those.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
Thumbs? Plural?
