    Default Possible dog tragedy averted....

Cold and rainy day at "The Place"......
Headed for town for a few thing...and just going for a ride.
On the main highway saw a car in front of me,... slam on breaks and swerve to the left....

Then I saw a little black and white dog running around in the road.....guy had just missed it.

Pulled up and stopped, kinda blocking traffic.... put on the flashers...he came running toward my truck....DW opened the door....dog jumped in.....
DW looked at the collar...had a tag, his name was Tuffy...and had a phone number.

Drove down the road to a side road....he was sitting on my lap, giving kisses...

Called the number...got a message, so left one....that I had found their dog...and left my number.....

Stopped at the first house on that side of the road...knocked at the door ...older fella answered , so I asked him if he knew who's dog it was.....
Said he didn't know...but asked ir I wanted an Rhubarb....or coffee...I think he was happy to get some company.

Thanked him, walked back to the truck...another car pulled in....didn't know about the dog, but was visiting and getting some rhubarb.

Got in the truck...Tuffy was sleeping on my hunting coat in the back seat....

About ready to pull out, phone rang...was Tuffy's mom.....Grandma was supposed to be watching him and kinda messed up.
Had to back tract about 3 miles to a side road...to his home....

Lady came out and thanked us.....Tuffy was home.

What they did wrong...take care of your animals....
What they did right....collar with phone number .....name

My dogs have that brass tag...but I put my name on it....not the dogs.....Makes it easier to find me should one of mine get lost.

That's the forth dog that has wandered in or was running down our road.....

Guess they know a sucker when the see one.
    Happy ending.

    Good story.

I want to rescue another heeler pup or pups. But they are Hell on Wheels for awhile when they are young. Mellow old Max would not be amused. In time...

Max has county tags, a brass plate with his name, ours, and phone #'s, and is chipped. But he is rarely out of sight of us.

There were several that were braking and swerving as he was in the road.....looked like just wait for someone to stop.....
I slept good last night knowing Tuffy was, as well.

Dang I do so enjoy this forum and the good men and women I have met here. Thanks Hunter. Great story, really valuable lesson, very clear instructions on how to do it right, and a prefect ending.

    Up date....LOL
Stopped down and visited Bob, a neighbor and Roxy his girlfriend (for 45 years...another story).....down our road.

He about 75, and has dementia pretty bad, ...she takes care of him....but she cant't get out much....so sort of stuck there..

Anyway....Was pouring rain again today....DW had made bean soup(favorite food)...but can't make it for only 2 people.
We took them a container down to for supper and spent the afternoon for a visit.

Couple of his old turkey hunting buddies had stopped in (our age)...I had met them before, so shot the ship, we had some beers reminiscing ...
    Told Roxy about the dog......
She said....So that little SOB sucked you in...he does this all the time....as the people don't take care of him.
Most folks would just holler at him to "Go Home"

She laughed and called me a sucker ....she knows me.
I would still stop and pick him up in a similar situation...
