Yeah, typically the steel for machetes is a little softer than what you would want for knives.

I could actually use a decent billhook, machete would also work, 5 might have been overkill although I could have left one or two up the cottage, maybe donated one to my mom's cottage. You know. as one does.

Sportsman's Guide is fast, Midway is faster, PayPal just about grabs your finger and presses the key for you!

God only knows how much extra I have spent at SG just to hit the $50 free shipping mark.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

Hunter63 - nice find, the second one from the top looks like it could be a good peanut butter and jelly spreader...

Thanks for the heads up. I have a couple machetes.... never use them. I generally don't need to chop my way through the desert.
I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Do you have a bench grinder? Because that would do the job....although I used to know a man who made uluit from....actually, I'm not sure where he got the metal, it was thicker than the old saw blade I used when I learned how to make them. Anyhow, so far as I know he used a file to put an edge on them, my mother bought one, and it was a good edge. Just took time to make it happen.

Yeah there is ...THAT...Real men use power tools....you know how long those (all 5) are right?....LOL

Was looking for an antique treadle grind stone....so far haven't found ay the work and were reasonable...

Think I'm going with the bench grinder to starters.
