Thread: Newbie shotgun question

    Default Newbie shotgun question

Good afternoon. I am retired & do hobby gun work. Not many speciality tools. I stick to simple projects like single shot break-down shotguns & 22 rifles. Does anyone know what is driving the high prices on H&R/ NEF shotgun barrels?

    Supply and demand.

NEF/H&R shut down production of the SS shotguns and halted the production of auxiliary barrels.

There is no supply but demand is still strong so the result is higher prices for the scarce commodity.

American manufacturers can not produce, ship and sell a single shot break open shotgun for the same money Turkey, China and Mexico charge for well made pump shotguns.

Fact is that even those producers can make a pump as cheap as they make a SS. You can buy a SS for $150 or you can buy a Turkish pump for $170.

H&R 1871....or if you will... H&R/NEF......Production was shut down by Remington....
Domestic production on all single shots rifles and shotgun ended in 2015.....
Along with that,....Their Barrel Accessory Program has also shut down.

The pricing you are seeing is the old axiom ...
"They are not making them anymore, so are rare and worth a lot more money '

And it seem to be working.....so pricing has gotten stupid.

Added to the fact the survival faction seems to have adopted the 20ga 18-1/2 barrel with screw in chokes the Official, cool "If you had one gun".....choice.

Apparently the days of the "I just picked this up at a garage sale for $80 SS"... is over......unless you see some posting by some people

As a user, fan and collector....this has hampered my acquisitions...LOL....Prices too high.

Thanks to all.I was not aware of the shutdown in production. Guess I'll focus more on Stevens- Savage. Most parts are still within reason. The
