“There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

I love primitive traps like these. It's simple and effective. Awesome! If I have a rat problem I'll definitely make one.
Not me. Rat traps are cheap. I buy them by the case.
That guy in 1st video said "engine" for the trap. Hmmm.....I'm with Crash; get all the rat traps I need from Wally's.![]()

Interesting design, I too wonder how far back they date.
Interesting trap, thanks for brining it to our attention. Nice to know the mechanics of a trap like that, could be handy in a wilderness survival situation when you can't find a animal traps surplus store.

I have never actually seen a rat except one a buddy of mine had as a pet!![]()
Yea I had a pet rat when I was a kid, bright white with red eyes named him Algernon, from the book Flowers for Algernon.
One of the best diy traps i have seen for rats and mice they use at farms. It is a empty paint bucket, a wire mesh screen, pvc pipe, and a ramp to go up the pail.
you fill the bottom of the bucket with sugar, grain, some peanut butter, and cheese to use as bait. you then cut in the center of the thick screen a hole big enough to squeeze the pvc pipe so that it is only 1-2 inches high above the screen and 4-5 inches down. You then bend the screen around the bucket/pail and use a staple gun and glue to make sure it is securely on, then set up the ramp for the mice/rats to climb up it.
I have seen people catch like 10 rodents overnight in these contraptions. Talk about an infestation. Rodents have a keen sense of smell at can be deterred from going near areas that they smell decaying rodents. This method none of the rodents are squeaking for help or that they are in trouble and seems to catch a crap load of your infestation in one shot.
here is another version i saw too

I should mention what I personally have used to catch rodents. To be honest the best way to get rid of rodents is having a cat, lol, but this also seemed to work great.
Mix in equal parts, baking soda, white ground sugar, and mash potato flakes and put on a paper plate near where you have seen mice/rat droppings. Next put sticky traps along 3 of the 4 sides of the paper plate.
the sugar draws them to the the plate, the baking soda and mash potato flakes will kill the rodents usually within 24 hours, those are the rodents that didn't get stuck on the sticky traps.
You can even disregard the sticky traps, I just do that so my spouse doesn't scream when she finds one of the dead rodents around the house
Simple traps like these are one of my favorites. It's both simple and effective. Awesome! If I have a rat problem, I'll definitely make one.
