    Default My Old Trusted Parang

Just wanna share this is the Parang I have been using for may years.

Ray Mears imported the same model from the same manufacturer and selling them now at his shop.

    https://www.raymears.com/Bushcraft_P...ndong-10-Inch/

Cuts a 5" diameter bmboo with just 3 blows and can be sharpen for a cut paper test.
    Mantains edge quite well.

Usually made from Land Rover 4X4 leaf springs.

I agree that they are cool.....but I not all the practical in my AO....so never considered one.

What other tasks are they suited for other than chopping, hacking wood processing/
    Cleaning game?....for example.

If they are being manufactured ....why would they use Land Rover Springs......or is it the "Same steel as..."
    That sounds custom made.

I understand that you can do good detail work with them if you have a lifetime of experience.

    Hunter,

for their uses, see Kyrat's video above.
Also google up Junglecrafty as Paul Coakley uses the parang very well.

Also check up Ray Mears Parangs.

These are mas produced and locally, Land Rover Leaf Springs are metals of good quality...

    Check the videos out

Like I said...they are cool, and like any tool that you know and like ...become that trusted tool.

What is your primary use?...or just every thing.

Gosh, English got the better of me...looks like another wrongly understood ...hehehe...well I only use them in the jungle, for about everything...but then, my everything is as you have said......only in the jungle..when I am not in the jungle, all my knives are re sharpened, oiled and stored well...awaiting their next trip to the jungle.

Hunter, our live style is a bit different than in the US city, or in the US country. I live in a small 3 bedroom single storey terraced house.
At home, we seldom use axes, parangs, machetes or big knives. The only we or I use daily is the kitchen knife, only one, that's the one I use to clean fish, cut meat, vegetables and everything for cooking..its a Noritake all purpose kitchen knife from Japan...its only when I want to debone a chicken do I use a deboning knife.

I don't cut or chop firewood, never need to.

For all my carpentry works and RC plane kits ..I use power tools , all from the BOSCH Company..

My camping equipment, survival kits, knives, cordage, cookset and stoves are only used when I go into the forest.

Thank you for information on the parang. While I have never used that pattern, I know how useful a good parang or machete can be in the rain forest.
