    Default Challenge

Over a beer or two with my best mate and survival buddy,
We came up with am idea.. (I suppose goes hand in hand with my version of preparedness)
Him and myself want to try 48 hours in a team of 2-3 max
Of what I would call primitive survival.
No tools, no knife, no water bottles or anything.. for 48 hrs
Goal to achieve water, fire, food and shelter.
I would obviously film this if we do do it.
Just I think a good test to ourselves and knowledge and resourcefulNess. .
If anyone else would like to do this please go ahead and join in the madness I would limit to max 3 per each team.
And you can't use anything but your clothing as an item (no paracord or edc or anything no lighters no equipment at all, I would allow shoe laces to be used though, and debris you find where you go can be used such as trash, cans etc, improvise but where possible use natrual things)
What do you think? What conditions would u specify.
If you do do this film it.

This is almost like our Florida boys "Pot and machete" weekends.

Just keep regular kit in reserve in case an emergency arises, and dehydration can be an emergency.

If you are allowing boot laces then be sure and replace yours with paracord, and double the length and wrap it around your boot tops. I replace all my outdoor footwear laces with 550 cord.

And keep in mind that even primitive people kept the knowledge of the area in mind and made their trips to place where they knew water and materials for shelter building were available.

But I am not going to join in. Your summer is our winter and the temps around here have been above normal but still hovering around freezing.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

Yes, I too replace shoelaces with paracord.. that would likely be the only "item" I would allow myself as I always have it somewhere.
I would not go to unknown area, and yes I would have gear as a backup just incase all hell broke loose.
Umm yeah there is no real rush to this.. I just want to try get it down sometime this year..

    Sounds like a good challenge....too bad this wasn't 20 years ago....Survival wasn't invented yet.....LOL

So....this is to be done in each persons area of operation, at each persons time frame?
    Then film it?

I did a couple of those in the marines. You knew it would be over in x number of days so you just endured through it. One time we had a knife and that was a big plus. It gave us something to play with. The other time was spent running and evading. Which was kind of fun too.

What is this "film" you speak of?

My devices now simply say "record".

Some of these youngsters probably never saw a camera that used film !

Or one you had to send the whole camera in to have the film developed then they would send a new camera back with film loaded!

If this is the first time you have ever attempted this Antony, it is best to stick to your own backyard sort of speak. Just realize that things get even more complicated when you are not within the confines of your normal environment. I'm getting a bit to Old and have far to much global experience with nothing other than the items in a Navy SV2, to willingly endure 48 hours of primitive survival. I think it is great that you are driven to test yourself in such a manner, but I've surrendered to retirement and gravity. Being an Old Sailor, I'd strongly recommend that you slip an non-lubricated condom into your pocket. When I was a young single sailor there wasn't anywhere I went without one, and the government insisted on thier carry and furnished them free. Now it might not be exactly primitive survival, but in a warm climate it's a good insurance policy. Hold off from using it until you must, if so desire. But the 48 hour mark is is well within the safety margin of the 72 hour X, so it should be quite an interesting challenge. JMHO.

No, it wouldn't be the 1st time, I have done 48hrs with just a knife firesteel and a waterbottle..
so it would be harder than that experience, but certainly not the 1st time I have done something like this, also did a 72 hour one with knife and waterbottle and firesteel.

How did you tackle making a shelter?

    Or getting food?

    (just curious)

Liked the video's Antony, looked like a heck of a good time. You can get pretty thirsty in 48 hours, stone boiling water in your hat etc..... would like to know how much more you appreciate a metal water bottle once your done. It's not that a boil-able metal water bottle is indispensable, but it sure is a luxury (comfort) when dealing with the little critters that like to make ground water thier home. Have a good time, I'll be looking forward to the video.

I had an amazing time You correct, a very few items like a metal bottle and a knife and a firesteel are indispensable... I know this one (when I do it) will be tough short I know, but still tough 48 hours without water is not fun, I wouldn't try, have to have at least have water....so yeah I will likely end up using my hat, or a rock pool.. will have to be ingenious.
I look forward to do it, just have to get a decent location 1stly.. But before that I will be taking some NEWBIES into the bush and teaching a few things soon, I make videos of that (10-12 Feb) I haven't quiet settled on a date for this other challenge project, other than to say it I want to do it within this year.

No tools sounds like an interesting challenge. I prefer you guys go a week though. 48 hrs seems too short.

There is allot of bad things that can happen in a week if Mother Nature doesn't smile upon you kaze. I think you are doing it properly by starting at 48 hours Antony. You can always increase the time on subsequent outings. JMHO.
