Thread: Knife no.2

  1. #1

    Default Knife no.2

This is my second knife I've made, the blade is made from old planer blade (D2 steel), the scales are walnut with beeswax + olive oil finish (hmmm, it smells so sweet).
I didn't use any pins because... I just like it this way.
Blade finish isn't perfect, I have to do more rough sand papering next time. But I think I have progressed a little from the first knife, and most importantly, I think I finally learnt how to be patient. I just have to be a little more patient .
    I appreciate any feedback.
And sorry for poor photo quality.

Nice job! I'll have to try that patience thing. Well, if I can find the time.

It looks nice, just know that if you drop it on a hard surface the scales may/will pop off without using pins.

Well, I should rather not drop it But you are probably right, I'll use pins next time.

A very good method for making a knife without visible pins is to use 1/4" bolts through the tang and just into the scales. Drill the back side of the scales, just make sure you do not go so deep that you sand into them, then glue it up, the threads in the bolt really hold the epoxy, works as good as pins all the way through.
